Today we will explore Malta’s splendors hidden behind the city walls of two Capitals of Malta. The former capital, Mdina, in the center of the island, a magnificent medieval town with narrow, winding streets, ancient Palaces, horse Carriages and churches. A marvelous place for all ages. A perfect half day tour for families with kids. We will start our ‘time travel day’ to discover the secrets of Mdina. The city is situated majestically, on one of the highest plateaus on the island with breathtaking views. Considering that Malta has passed through the hands of stunning 14 cultures throughout the centuries, Mdina has had many names including Maleth (Pheonician), Melite (Roman), Medina (Arabic), Citta Notabile (Spanish) and Citta Vecchia (Knights Period). Quite a place! Today it is also called the ‘Silent City’ because of its literally quiet and narrow streets that give off a quaint, yet very homely atmosphere. Onto Valletta, the present Capital of Malta, where we will stroll through the busy streets, visit a short movie to help you learn more about this interesting island and its history. We will discover landmarks like the Upper Barracca Gardens which have stunning views of the bay, St. John’s Co-Cathedral and the famous paintings by the Italian artist Caravaggio and the Magisterial Palace. Learn about the founder of Valletta and the Knights of St. John and what happened to them.
Valletta, the Capital of Malta and European Capital City of Culture in 2018, is a stunning open-air museum. This town is a living experience of Baroque architecture, a town created by the Knights of St John nearly five centuries ago. Thanks to its strategic location in the heart of the Mediterranean Sea, Valletta has welcomed emperors, heads of state, artists and poets and many other important people throughout the centuries.
You will be enchanted by the quaint little cafés and wine bars, this UNESCO sight offers. Open Air concerts, fairs, apart from the daily hustle, bustle of the friendly inhabitants of this island. A final view before we end our tour, taking a stunning snapshot of Malta’s Grand Harbour, frequently stated as one of the most beautiful ones in the Mediterranean. We will now take you back to your hotel or a place previously agreed upon.
