Tour Details

Although poor Vincent only sold a single painting throughout his entire lifetime, nowadays he might be one of the most famous Dutch painters in history, perhaps even better known than Rembrandt van Rijn. Get ready to embark upon a journey through the life and times of Vincent van Gogh and learn about his past, his influences, and his legacy. Find out about his unique artistic style, the colours he used and his trademark technique. Your guide will teach you about Van Gogh’s tortured life: including his relationship with his younger brother Theo and his experiences as a frustrated, overlooked artist.
You’ll not only see all Van Gogh’s most famous artworks, but you’ll also get the chance to see work by his famous contemporaries such as the French Impressionists, Gaugin and Monet. Amsterdam’s Van Gogh Museum is home to the world’s largest collection of works by this legendary Dutch artist and is a must-see for art and art history lovers.
The museum boasts a collection of Vincent van Gogh’s personal letters and correspondences, plus 200 paintings and 500 drawings by this master and his contemporaries.
There are also plenty of pivotal works by other artists, including Gauguin, Monet, Toulouse-Lautrec, and Bernard—plus Van Gogh’s famous early works such as “The Potato Eaters” and his final paintings such as “Wheatfield with Crows.” The museum also answers, once and for all, what exactly happened with Vincent’s ear and why he chose to cut it off.
The Van Gogh Museum is large and full of interesting exhibits, and yet not overwhelmingly big. Once you enter, time will slip away as our expert guide tells you about the fascinating stories which lie behind each painting. With us you will be have the opportunity to tour the museum with a professional art historian, which is the only way to truly get to know van Gogh’s work. Our ‘Van Gogh at his Best’ Tour is the perfect way to learn more about his life and works.
The Van Gogh Museum houses the world’s largest collection of artworks by Vincent van Gogh, including his famous paintings ‘Sunflowers,’ ‘Almond Blossom,’ ‘The Bedroom,’ and ‘The Potato Eaters.’ Through van Gogh’s paintings, the museum shows you the artist’s journey from Holland (where his work was much darker) to Paris and the south of France. We particularly love showing tourists around the second-floor wall, which displays 18 paintings produced during his time in France. You will not be disappointed by this museum and you will be shocked at how much you have learned in just 2 hours.
