ATHENS – A private stroll around the heart of Athens, followed by an Authentic Meze dinner
No place on earth screams culture like Athens – once the capital of one of the greatest Empires of the Ancient World! On this wonderful tour, you will be introduced to some of the city’s most famous landmarks and picturesque places! We recommend this tour for the very beginning of your trip, as it will allow you to get a feel for the city and orientate yourself for the following days. As a result, you will notice that you will waste less time in the following days trying to figure out what places to visit or to locate where you are. The overall aim of the tour is to make you feel comfortable navigating through the city, and greeting people and ordering in a taverna just like the Greeks do!
The tour usually starts in the heart of the city. The narrow and windy streets of a lovely neighbourhood called Plaka will blow you away, and help you learn about the history of one of the oldest neighbourhoods in all of Europe! The next stop is beautiful Anafiotika, also known as the ‘secret neighbourhood of Athens.’ Although it is secret, your expert tour guide will now their way around this neighbourhood and unveil all the secrets that this fantastic neighbourhood holds! Taking pictures, stopping for a decadent ice cream on a hot summer’s day or resting on a cheeky bench in the shade of a pine tree is always an option along the way!
While you are strolling around in this area, you will have a chance to visit many other places. Particularly striking, among these, is the esplanade of Dionysiou Areopagitou, from where you will be able to get a prime view of the most quintessentially Athenian monument – the Parthenon with its dominating Great Propylaea. Another important stop on this tour will be the the Acropolis Museum and the Odeon of Herodes Atticus. Please keep in mind that because this is a private tour, your tout guide will be more than willing and able to tweak the itinerary of the tour, should there be any specific things that you and your family would like to see!
Finally, the tour will end in a traditional taverna located in one of the most historical streets of Athens. Although the food is the protagonist of this part of the tour, the breathtaking views that the taverna has to offer will be an incredible backdrop to your memorable meal! At the taverna, your expert tour guide will take your through the menu and explain some of the basics of Greek cuisine. Of course if you have any additional questions, do not hesitate to ask at any point!
By the end of the tour, we hope that you will have gotten a general sense of the culture and main historical neighbourhoods of Athens. Once it has ended, you will be able to sit back, relax, and enjoy the rest of the evening with your loved ones! If you have the energy, you might even want to pop into the Thiseion Open Air Cinema, voted the best summer cinema in the world by CNN for a stunning movie experience.

One of the best things to do for families with children in Greece is a Mythology Tour. The reason why the Mythology tour is always a good idea is that it is educational and playful ay the same time, keeping the younger travellers engaged and happy. The tour tends to last about 4 hours, and during this time, you and your little ones will learn about the mythology of Ancient Greece – anything from the stories of the gods of Mount Olympus and the heroes of the Ancient world.
Once you arrive at the Acropolis, your expert, child-friendly tour guide will explain what inspired the Acropolis, the reasons why Athens was once one of the greatest cities in the world, and offer fun and creative insight into Athenian society. Thereafter, you will hear the world famous stories of hoe the the Parthenon, the Theater of Dionysus, the Temple of Athena Nike and the Temple of Erechtheion, as well as the Sanctuary of Asclepius came to be. What makes this tour even more interesting is its technological aspect. An iPad enabling a 3D visualisation of how the Acropolis, and many statues, buildings, and ancient objects looked in the 5th century BC will be provided.
Essentially, you and your family should pick the Athens Mythology Tour because it a great alternative to the more ‘standard’ tour out there, which are often perceived as being a bit dull and dry for the youngest adventurers in the group.
