The Republic of Malta! A forgotten archipelago in the heart of the Mediterranean Sea – the Mare Nostrum. It’s culture and language – Maltese – have been influenced by many civilizations, dotted all around the coasts that surround it. Because of it’s advantageous position it was used by the Greeks, Phoenicians and Romans as a secure stop on their trade routes; the Spanish brought their traditions to these lands when they occupied Malta in the 1200 and the famous Knights of Malta created their religious order, that still exists today; after the French invasion in 1964 the archipelago finally became independent. The location – between the south of Italy and Tunisia – and the fact that it is one of the world’s smallest and, at the same time, most populated countries, gives you a clue of why it is such an amazing destination for families with children. There is culture, when one desires to gain insight on historical facts and beach, when one wants to relax. This very small jewel has three UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and together with the ‘Mediterranean’ climate, which favors an outstanding temperature and environment it is the perfect place for you to bond with your children.
